Fundraising Officer

Location: Watamu, Kenya
Contract: Full-time
Reports to: Communications Coordinator
Salary: Entry-level, commensurate with experience
Application deadline: 26/09/2025

About the role

A Rocha Kenya is seeking a motivated Fundraising Officer (Entry Level) to join our team in Watamu.
This role will support donor engagement and income generation, with a focus on individual giving, church partnerships, and other non-grant fundraising initiatives.

The position is primarily desk-based, involving donor management, stewardship, and administration of online fundraising platforms.
However, the officer will also, when directed, undertake occasional field-based content creation, such as gathering photographs, stories, and short interviews, to strengthen donor communications and fundraising campaigns.

We are looking for someone who not only has the skills to get started quickly, but also brings enthusiasm, creativity, and the ability to spot stories and opportunities that will inspire our supporters.

As a Christian conservation organisation, A Rocha Kenya operates within a faith-based ethos that shapes our values, work culture, and approach to conservation. While candidates of all backgrounds are welcome to apply, the successful applicant must be comfortable working in, and contributing positively to a Christian organisational environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Donor Management and Stewardship

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date donor records in Salesforce and other databases.

  • Send timely thank-you messages and personalised follow-ups to individual donors and church partners.

  • Respond promptly to general donor queries received via email or social media.

  • Assist in planning donor stewardship activities, including reminders, email sequences, and engagement calendars.

2. Online Fundraising Platforms

  • Manage and update A Rocha Kenya’s profiles on platforms such as GlobalGiving, GoFundMe, and Mchanga.

  • Upload stories, project updates, reports, and images according to platform requirements.

  • Monitor donations received through each platform and prepare basic income summaries.

3. Church and Community Fundraising Support

  • Assist in preparing regular updates for church partners and community supporters.

  • Track engagement with church groups and maintain accurate contact records.

  • Prepare short testimonies, updates, or visuals for use in church communication materials.

  • Coordinate the production and sharing of update videos for supporting churches.

4. Fundraising Reporting and Administration

  • Track donor activity and giving patterns using internal tools.

  • Compile monthly fundraising performance reports for internal review.

  • Keep digital fundraising files and folders organised and accessible.

5. Content Creation and Communications Support

  • Draft short donor-focused stories for review and inclusion in newsletters or reports.

  • Schedule pre-approved content for social media platforms.

  • Flag donor-related messages or comments requiring attention from the Communications Coordinator.

  • Undertake occasional field visits to gather photographs, stories, and interviews for donor communications.

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in Communications, Development Studies, Fundraising, Marketing, or related field (desired).

  • Excellent written English, with the ability to adapt tone for different audiences (essential).

  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail (essential).

  • Comfortable using digital tools ( Salesforce, Mailchimp, Meta, etc.) (essential).

  • Up to two years of relevant experience — including paid work, internships, or volunteer roles — in fundraising, communications, donor relations, or church engagement (preferred).

  • Creativity, enthusiasm, and the ability to identify compelling stories and opportunities for donor engagement (essential).

  • Interest in environmental conservation and/or community-based work (desirable).

  • Willingness to work within, and contribute positively to, a Christian organisational environment (essential).
