I have held different roles at A Rocha Kenya, doing both in terrestrial and marine research. My journey with A Rocha Kenya started in 2015 when I came for student attachment, having been recommended by a friend who had completed hers at ARK as well. This is a three-month exposure to practical conservation work done as part of university requirements. In retrospect, growing up, I wanted to become a medical doctor but did not get the required pass mark for government sponsorship for this course.
As God would have it, I was called to pursue Bachelor of Environmental Science. Whilst pursuing my course work, I was still entertaining the thought of pursuing a medical course, but it was during this time while working with A Rocha, that environmental conservation work started making sense and I began seeing how God had destined me to be in this career path. The work became fulfilling, and I did it passionately. I later came back in 2018 after having graduated from university to do biodiversity data publishing work. I then left in 2019 for another job then came back in 2020 where I worked as the Marine Governance Project Officer.
In 2021, I took up the role of a Regional Project Coordinator for BID-GBIF project. Currently I am doing Project Management and Fundraising. ARK has helped me to understand that everyone can contribute to environmental conservation in big or small ways – from staff to volunteers to guests. And rightly so because God commanded man to care for His creation (Genesis 2:15).
During my free time I enjoy Cooking, spending time in nature with family or friends, bird watching. A Rocha to me feels like home in that you can’t run away from home, you will always come back. My story has been one of leaving and coming back
