Community Conservation Intern

My name is  Stanley Thoya Baya, i pursued BA statistics in Meru University of Science and Technology . Many years ago, during my time as a pupil at Mijomboni Primary School, I became aware of A Rocha Kenya through the Asset programme. From 2012 to 2015, I was an Asset beneficiary. I joined in 2021, working as a data clerk during my attachment from January to March. I returned in July 2023 as an intern in the Community Conservation department as the Geographic Information System (GIS) person.

Within this organization, my duties include plotting polygons for the plots we buy at Dakatcha, creating kmz files, creating the necessary coordinates and polygons for the lawyer to draft the agreement, making sure we have the necessary documents (family resolution, confirmation of land ownership from the village elder and area chief), scanning and archiving the agreements. Having a science background, I also do basic analysis with different programs  within the organization.

Throughout the time I have worked in  A Rocha, one thing that has become clear to me is that all living things, including insects, have an equal right to enjoy the creations of the Lord and deserve to be protected. I am grateful for the opportunity to attend Monday morning meetings provide that has escalated my spiritual growth.

I enjoy exploring and sports-related activities, especially football.
